SUMMARY SERIES: Book One

SYNOPSIS:

Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.

Raised in Arnes—Red London, Kell officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.

Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they'll never see. It's a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they'll first need to stay alive.

REVIEW:

I absolutely LOVED this book and to be honest with you every single book in the Shades Of Magic Trilogy was a 5 star read for me. A Darker Shade Of Magic gave me the exact same feelings of excitement, shock and obsession that Throne Of Glass gave me.

The magical system in this book and the entire series is absolutely next level. The world building also goes above and beyond anything I've ever read before.

V.E. Schwab has an incredible gift of making her worlds complex, without making them hard to understand. As a reader with ADHD I really appreciate that!

Delilah Bard has to be one of the most feral, most relatable and empowering FMC's around. I loved living through her POV as she began to realize and fully own her personal power.

In a lot of ways this was a very healing read for my inner teenage self who was constantly told what she could and couldn't do!

I also really loved Kell and his internal battle to accept his circumstances and the fact that at points he was being taken advantage of by the people who "loved" him the most..

we've all been there, am I right?!

After reading The Invisible Life Of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) I decided to pick up A Darker Shade Of Magic, and I had absolutely no idea what to expect, what it was about or if it had romance within it,

But I LOVED every single book and like I said above I rated them all 5 stars,

I will say the more time I spent with the characters the more I fell in love with the series. I feel like I watched it, because the writing was so descriptive!

This series does have the SLOWEST BURN I have ever read!!

By the time I got to the second book I just wanted to shut Kell and Delilah in a closet for 7 minutes lol. I'm not usually a slow burn girly, BUT this series was incredible and 100% worth the read!!

V.E. Schwab is one of my INSTANT PURCHASE authors and I would read her grocery list if she deemed me "worthy" I HIGHLY recommend A Darker Shade Of Magic!
